The lake’s name Elementaita also referred to as Elmentaita, is derived from the Maasai word, ‘Muteita’, which means ‘a dusty place’ as it is identified with the dryness and dustiness of the area. The lake is a protected area as it has been listed as one of the UNESCO world heritage sites. Others include Lake Nakuru and Bogoria. Birding and scenic landscapes are some of the attractions of the lake.
Down at the floor of the Great Rift Valley, lies Lake Nakuru – surrounded by wooded and bushy grassland. The lake is famed for its millions of flamingos that flock the realm of its shores. It is home to the endangered wildlife species such as black and white rhinoceroses, giraffes, waterbucks, lions, leopards, baboons, cheetahs, warthogs, pythons and much more.
It’s no doubt that Hell’s Gate is a token from the creator. Whilst in Lake Naivasha Park, enjoy jaw-dropping sceneries of Fischer’s Tower, belching plumes of geysers; the dramatic gorges of Hell’s Gate e.t.c.
Lake Naivasha is a birder’s paradise with over 100 bird species on record. Wildlife in the park includes Thomson’s gazelles, elands, waterbucks, African buffaloes among others.
Marvel at how the evergreen Naivasha Crater Lake sustains its ecosystem as you glide aboard a boat or as you partake in a rewarding nature walk. Attractions in the crater lake include black and white Columbus monkeys, herds of buffaloes and some members of the big five family.
