Africa’s Leading Airline as announced by the World Travel Awards and Kenya’s national carrier, Kenya Airways, has announced the beginning of daily direct flights between Kenya and the USA’s city of New York starting October 2018. These flights which complete an essential piece for Kenya Airways’ network are a step in the right direction for the airline that already serves Africa, Europe, Middle-East, Indian sub-continent and Asia.
The flights are expected to contribute tremendously to Kenya’s and East Africa’s economic growth as mentioned by Sebastian Mikosz, Kenya Airways’ Group Managing Director. Many growth opportunities and markets for travellers between the two regions are foreseen including those of tour operators hoping to capitalize on the high number of tourist visitors travelling from the USA to Kenya which currently stand at 100,000 visitors per year.
The trans-Atlantic flights between Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and the John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York will last about 15 hours eastbound and 14 hours westbound on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner taking a maximum of 234 passengers.
Departing daily, the flight will leave Nairobi’s JKIA airport hub at 23:25 and arrive at New York JFK’s airport at 06:25 the following day.
The inaugural flight for this route for Kenya Airways is scheduled for October 28, 2018 and bookings for these flights are already available online.
