Murchison Falls also known as Kabarega falls is the largest and the oldest conservation area in Uganda. It falls between Kyoga and Albert lakes on the White river Nile in Uganda. The park is named after the mighty Murchison falls where the Nile River forces its way through a narrow gorge, which is 8m wide known as the Devils Cauldron, giving rise to a gorgeous rainbow.


The national park is under Uganda Wildlife Authority management, north-west Uganda and spreads inland from the shores of Lake Albert, around Victoria Nile, up to the Karuma Falls. Together with the adjacent 748 square kilometres Bugungu Wildlife Reserve and the 720 square kilometres Karuma Wildlife Reserve, the park forms the Murchison Falls Conservation Area.


The vegetation is characterised by savannah, riverine forest and woodland. Wildlife includes lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, hartebeests, oribis, Uganda kobs, chimpanzees whereas bird species include goliath heron, African darter, abdim’s stork, osprey, white-faced whistling duck, yellow-billed stork, secretary bird, shoebill and so much more.

Nile River Cruise

Cruise downstream to the Nile Lake Delta gliding past the huge hippo pods, crocodiles, bathing buffaloes and numerous aquatic birds e.g. Goliath Heron, Grey-crowned Crane and the rare Shoebill Stock on the North bank on the way to the mighty Waterfalls. Trips normally depart at 9.00am and 2.00pm, with each voyage taking about 3hrs. After enjoying the vigorous exercise, visitors may disembark from the lunch in the Fajao gorge for the 45-60 minutes climb to the top of the falls.

Beautiful Wildlife Experience

Sample an array of breath-taking wild beasts which include elephants, buffaloes, lions and leopards, all residing in the northern parts of the park. Some other special sightings may include the Ugandan kob, oribi, Jackson hartebeest and the Rothschild’s giraffe. Murchison Falls National Park, along with Kidepo Valley National Park, is the only place to see this magnificent subspecies of giraffe in the wild
