Every Seedling Counts: Private Safaris Commits to Coastal Conservation.
Majaoni Creek, Mtwapa | 25th July 2026.
On 25th July 2026, the Private Safaris Mombasa Team joined fellow conservation champions at Majaoni Creek, Mtwapa, for a meaningful mangrove tree planting initiative that highlighted the critical role mangrove ecosystems play in protecting Kenya’s coastline.
As part of our unwavering commitment to sustainable tourism and environmental stewardship, Private Safaris pledged to plant 100 mangrove seedlings through SKÅL International. This initiative reflects our belief that preserving the natural environments we proudly showcase is a shared responsibility and an integral part of our journey.
The day’s exercise was both humbling and rewarding. Participants ventured into the swampy creek, carefully navigating the deep, black mud while carrying and planting young mangrove seedlings. With trousers rolled up and feet sinking into the soft ground, each step demanded balance and determination. Working together, the team firmly secured each seedling into the muddy soil – embracing the challenge, despite the inevitable mud-covered hands and boots.
What began as a physically demanding activity soon became a powerful reminder that meaningful conservation often requires stepping beyond our comfort zones. Mangrove forests are among the world’s most valuable coastal ecosystems. They serve as natural barriers against coastal erosion and storm surges, provide essential breeding grounds for fish and other marine life, improve water quality, and capture significant amounts of atmospheric carbon, making them powerful allies in the fight against climate change.
Beyond their ecological importance, mangrove restoration projects create lasting social impact by supporting local livelihoods, strengthening community resilience, and empowering women through sustainable conservation initiatives.
This event was more than a tree planting exercise. It was a celebration of collective action and environmental responsibility. Every seedling planted represents a lasting investment in healthier coastlines, thriving biodiversity, and a more sustainable future.
At Private Safaris, we believe that every journey into nature carries a responsibility to protect it. Through initiatives such as this, we remain committed to ensuring that the landscapes and ecosystems that inspire travellers today continue to flourish for generations to come.
Top 6 Reasons Why Mangroves Matter:
1. Preserving Beautiful Coastlines.
Mangroves reduce coastal erosion by stabilizing shorelines. This helps protect the white sandy beaches and scenic coastlines that attract visitors.
2. Supporting Marine Wildlife
Mangroves serve as nurseries for fish, crabs, prawns, and other marine species. They also provide habitat for birds and marine animals, creating richer experiences for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and photographers.
3. Enhances Ecotourism
Healthy mangrove forests become attractions in their own right. Visitors can enjoy guided boardwalk tours, canoe excursions, birdwatching, kayaking, and educational nature experiences.
4.Protects Coral Reefs.
Healthy mangrove forests become attractions in their own right. Visitors can enjoy guided boardwalk tours, canoe excursions, birdwatching, kayaking, and educational nature experiences.
5. Builds Climate Resilience.
Mangroves act as natural barriers against storms and high tides, protecting coastal tourism infrastructure such as hotels, lodges, restaurants, and roads from damage.
6. Supports Local Communities
Healthy mangrove ecosystems sustain fisheries and create opportunities for community-led tourism initiatives. When local livelihoods improve, visitors often enjoy more authentic cultural and conservation experiences.
